Dances by "Little Egypt" were among the attractions at the World's Fair in Portland, better known as the Lewis & Clark Exposition. The exposition, which ran from June 1 to Oct. 15, 1905, commemorated the centennial of the pioneering voyage that opened the Pacific Northwest to American settlement. The fairgrounds comprised 400 acres in Northwest Portland that planners laid out and built as a small city to showcase an exotic array of architectural styles. The fair drew an estimated 2.6 million visitors, according to the Oregon Blue Book. Admission: 50 cents for adults, 25 cents for children.
