Bicycles get people young and old to their errands day and night in Amsterdam, where locals will tell you that there are more bicycles than humans in the city. They can't explain why bikes still get stolen, however. What is certain is that bikes rule the streets, and that only the rich and the stupid drive a car in a city where there can be a fine-year wait for a very expensive parking place, yet getting from place to place in this flat, compact city by bike is easy.
