Mike Maine drives to the Deschutes River often from his home in Seaside, because the river provides world class fly fishing. His guide, John Smeraglio, owner of Deschutes Canyon Fly Shop in Maupin, lists three reasons for the river's fame. "It's one of the only rivers you'll find with wild indigenous trout, that also has two kind of anadromousfish. It's got an unbelievably huge biomass for the trout. The weather; you can basically fish here year 'round."
