Dale Bernards, 47, checks the sway of a tree he is cutting. He and his brother Gary, 51, are second generation cutters from Salem. They were working recently near Monroe cutting trees for Hull-Oakes Lumber Co in Monroe. Their father, Don Bernards, helped cut the trees from what is now Detroit Lake and cut until he was 70-years-old.
