Ben Vorster of Hood River, formerly of South Africa, jumps a wave in the Columbia River at Spring Creek National Fish Hatchery located four miles west of the White Salmon/Hood River toll bridge on State Route 14, where there were numerous surfers practicing for upcoming competitions. The ongoing Gorge Cup Windsurf Race Series is a local event that includes nine regattas on various Saturdays from May to September. Formula class racing is the main focus. However, if winds exceed maximum, the fleet runs fast-paced slalom races. The 2nd Annual Gorge Freestyle Frenzy is a one day freestyle windsurfing competition to be held on the first sufficiently windy day within a two week window, July 6th through July 20th, 2008, at the The Hatchery.
